As area children rush home to enjoy their summer vacation many come home to empty pantries. In our 11 county service area 67,010 people are food insecure and 34,620 of those are children. During the summer months our partner agencies see a growth in their distribution numbers due to children being home for summer break. Most of these households are not necessarily food insecure all the time but many households live paycheck to paycheck and the added cost of living expenses for families makes an impact on families. Many families much choose to pay their rent/mortgage, light, water, etc and a very minimum is left to feed their families.
